Boomu Women's Group is one of the Community-Based programs that provide unique cultural interactions while on safari in Uganda, particularly in Murchison Falls National Park.

Although it is known as a Women's Group, there are some guys in the group. It is located 13 miles from Masindi in Kigaragara Village, Kihaguzi Parish, on the outskirts of Murchison Falls National Park and Budongo Forest Reserve (near Kichumbayobo Gate), and is an ideal site to experience an African village while on safari in Uganda.

Boomu Village Stay, like a typical African village, lacks running water, electricity, and even solar lighting (not because it is unaffordable), allowing travelers to experience and appreciate life in an African village, hence providing an authentic African cultural experience. While here, you will spend the night/s in a traditional African Banda and learn about how rural Ugandans live their daily lives. You will help gather and prepare traditional foods using traditional tools (firewood).

Typical organic foods are delivered directly from the gardens, without refrigeration, to the fire, and then to the dish, and you will be participating in the complete process from garden to plate. Boomu is a native word that means "together," and visiting our Village Stay will help you realize the importance of "working together" to thrive in this world. When the supper is ready, you will sit on mats rather than dining tables and eat with your hands, as is customary in most Ugandan villages. However, you may be offered a fork if you so desire.

The Traditional Cottages/Bandas have clean and well-maintained grounds surrounded by trees (including fruit trees), flowers, and shrubs that provide habitat for a variety of bird and butterfly species. Not only that, but the trees provide calm environs ideal for unwinding while enjoying the sights and sounds of various birds, such as weaver birds.

The establishment's showers are open-air and provide warm water in jerry cans, which is unusual, however cold water is normal. Toilets are eco-friendly and compostable.

While at Boomu Women's Group, you will have the opportunity to visit an African village in Uganda, participate in a guided nature walk, hear old tales and legends from some of the local elders, and witness Bunyoro courtship traditions and childbirth celebrations, among other things. You will learn firsthand about the barriers and challenges that most Ugandan villages experience owing to a lack of education, utilities such as running water and electricity, the high pace of population increase and its impact on the land, and the strain it puts on food. This group allows you to examine traditional farming methods, as well as how crops are collected and processed. Some of the facilities include beautiful gardens, a craft shop, and a café.
