Dr. Femke Bannink Mbazzi is a clinical and educational psychologist as well as a cultural anthropologist with over 20 years of research and clinical expertise in Uganda's disability inclusion and mental health sectors. She is enthusiastic about the participatory design and testing of culturally relevant health and education interventions for young people with disabilities. She investigated the significance of belonging and 'Ubuntu' in her PhD study and has since included this in all research projects and interventions she plans and performs.

She is an Associate Professor at the International Centre for Evidence in Disability (ICED) at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in Uganda, where she leads the Disability Research Group at the MRC/UVRI & LSHTM Uganda Research Unit. The Disability Research Group is made up of East African scholars with and without impairments who design and implement African disability research. The organization also accommodates and trains PhD and MSc students, as well as providing internships to recent graduates with impairments.
