Baker's Lodge

Baker's Lodge, named for the ancient English explorer Samuel Baker, is located on the south bank of the magnificent Nile River, which flows through Murchison Falls National Park. This compact, safari-style lodge is situated in a vast private location with direct river access, enormous leafy trees, and wetland areas with numerous birdlife along the water's edge. The views of the river are huge and breathtaking, with islets hosting nesting egret birds, elephants bathing, and pods of hippos frequently seen.

Getting There By Road

Bakers Lodge is located on the south bank of the Nile River, just outside the Murchison Falls National Park boundaries. Drive north from Kampala to Gulu, then turn left toward Masindi at the Kafu River intersection (about 3 hours after leaving Kampala). From Masindi, turn right opposite the second Shell fuel station (on the intersection with the Masindi Hotel) and follow the Uganda Wildlife Authority and other signage for 6 kilometers along the Murram Road before turning left towards the National Park Kichumbanyobo gate. Drive through the Kanyo-Pabidi area of the Budongo forest, down the escarpment past the turn to the Top of the Falls, and on to the Paraa ferry station.

There are two left-hand bends just before reaching the Nile (about 90–120 minutes from Masindi, depending on road conditions). The second houses a large Uganda Wildlife Authority sign, as well as signage promoting Baker's Lodge and other nearby services. Turn left here and drive past the park offices, through Mubako hamlet, and out the park gate (about 2.5 kilometers). The Baker's Lodge entrance is about 50 metres on the right side, after the park gate.

For the most adventurous, the lodge can also be reached by the escarpment road that runs through Bulisa and Wanseko.

Getting There by Air

Air travel options include scheduled and charter flights landing at Bugungu airfield on the south bank (20 minutes) or Pakuba airstrip on the north bank (90–120 minutes), depending on road conditions and ferry schedules.
