The Kamwenge Road takes you just 22 kilometers from Fort Portal to the boundary of Kibale Forest National Park. Simply follow the signs! Chimpanzee woodland Lodge is situated on 100 acres of manicured lawns, lovely gardens, tea plantations, grassland, and indigenous woodland. Enjoy stunning panoramic views of Kibale National Park, ancient crater lakes, and the Rwenzori Mountains. A Ugandan family, the late John Switzer, son of the then British District Commissioner and major tea producer C.W Switzer, owns and operates the business.
Chimpanzee Forest Lodge was once a residence of the British district commissioner in the 1950s, during Uganda's colonial period, and was transformed into a Guest House in 2003, where it has been lovingly cared for and preserved ever since. Guests can unwind in a comfortably furnished lounge, which houses an extensive collection of colonial African literature dating back to the 1800s.
Chimpanzee Forest Lodge provides accommodations in attractively equipped self-contained cottages (Bandas) with panoramic views of Kibale Forest National Park and the nearby tea plantations. We also have accommodations in a large ancient colonial house that was once home to the British commissioner in the 1950s. It is tastefully decorated and features two self-contained rooms in a colonial setting with stunning views of Kibale National Park, the Tea Plantation, and the Crater Lake. Enjoy hot showers in western-style bathrooms. Or camp on flat grassy places away from the home that provide shade and seclusion.
Services include great hot meals, cool drinks, freshly baked bread, seasonal homegrown fruits and vegetables, pancake breakfasts, and percolated coffee. The Kibale National Park Headquarters is approximately 500 meters away, while chimp trekking at the park's Kanyanchu Tourist Center is only 10 kilometers distant.
