Nkima Forest Lodge is nestled in 40 acres of natural forest on Nansubuga Hill, overlooking the Mabamba Wetlands. The lodge was erected with minimum impact on the surrounding forest and open grassland on top of the hill.

The area is a popular birding destination in Uganda, and the local community organizes boat tours into the marshes to see shoebill storks and other birds from the adjacent Mabamba landing place. The forest is home to a diverse range of bird species, as well as red-tailed and vervet monkeys. The site also features a variety of butterflies and insects, as well as smaller mammals including squirrels, mongooses, and bush babies. Bushbucks and duikers have occasionally been seen. This is a small wilderness retreat close to Entebbe and Kampala, ideal for anyone seeking tranquility, fresh air, and an escape to a beautiful natural setting.

The main lodge includes a dining area, a bar, and a lounge with comfortable seating that can be opened on three sides throughout the day to provide a pleasant breeze and views of the grassy glade surrounded by woodland. The lodge includes a high deck cut into the forest near the lounge with views of the Mabamba wetlands, ideal for an evening sundowner or a peaceful location to sit and read in the shade.

A short distance from the main lodge is an outdoor fire pit with sunset views of the forest canopy and the wetlands beyond. A swimming pool with a covered shallow area for youngsters and a deck with chairs and loungers is tucked behind a tiny patch of forest beyond the fire pit and away from the main lodge. Hammocks are available in several locations for resting or reading in the calm of the forest.

The lodge serves freshly cooked food with a limited but rotating menu that includes a variety of cuisines and accommodates all dietary needs. The owners have trained the cooks, and they are personally concerned with the food's quality.
