Uganda is the doorway to the African wilderness. When British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill visited in 1907, he was captivated by the tranquil beauty. He concluded that this must be the Pearl of Africa. It's the Pearl, indeed!

Murchison Falls, also known as Kabalega Falls, was named after the famous ruler of Bunyoro, Omukama Kabalega, from the previous century. The Falls are the pinnacle of Ugandan wilderness, and your trip begins right here, at the Bwana Tembo Safari Camp.

Bwana Tembo- Mister Elephant, or Lord Elephant in the local Swahili tongue, is named after a large African elephant that roams the continent. The gentle giants were frequent visitors during the camp's building, and they inspired the camp's name.

Bwana Tembo is a lovely safari camp run by an Italian family that moved to Uganda in 1986. You'll soon meet Davide and Francesco, the owners and managers, as you organize your trip.

Bwana Tembo is located on the fringes of the little town of Pakwach in Uganda's far northwestern region, 397 kilometers from the capital, Kampala. This route will take you around 6 hours to drive from Kampala, or you can take a scheduled 40-minute flight to Pakuba airfield, which is about a 50-minute drive from the camp. If you prefer to drive yourself through Masindi, people with an adventurous spirit may opt to sail down the Nile on the ferry between Masindi and Pakwach.
